The most well-known products manufactured by Wako brand are various reagents for research use.
Wako was established in 1922 with the hope of servicing researchers through the provision of sophisticated reagents. Our ninetieth anniversary of our founding was celebrated last year. This hope remains unchanged and is the foundation of Wako's philosophy.

How the research laboratories were started From genomes to life sciences

In October 2001, the Genome Research Laboratories were established as a part of divisions of Diagnostics and Laboratory Chemicals. After human genome sequencing was decoded, our first objective was to develop new diagnostic markers based on the gained information.
Subsequently, research development has been broadened to include reagents that address life sciences such as reagents to extract DNA and RNA, antibodies for microRNA research, chemiluminescence reagents for protein detection, and culture media/reagents for cell cultures. With this background, Wako changed its name in April 2012 to Life Science Research Laboratories to indicate the direction we intend to take.

The subject of research has shifted from development of diagnostic markers achieved from decoding the human genome to protein analysis and non-coding RNAs.

Wako's objective is to provide reliable products for researchers. Among various reagents including those imported from other courtiers, we want our products to be supplied as sophisticated, assured, simple, and inexpensive reagents.
In particular, regenerative medicine using stem cells such as iPS cells is a field with great future expectations. It would be greatly appreciated if researchers could use commercialized stem cell culture media and reagents by Wako.

In addition, we hope to focus on developing reagents with originality that will be accepted worldwide. To that end, we must strengthen our ties with external research laboratories through collaborative research.
Our collaborative research with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) has recently yielded successful results with lectin as an undifferentiated pluripotent cell marker. New research fields such as stem cells and non-coding RNAs are expanding rapidly.
In accordance with such trend, we believe that our mission is to contribute to advancement of science by developing cutting-edge reagents at our Life Science Research Laboratories.
