1. PI Carbon Black Gold (0)

This product is a polymer-incarcerated gold catalyst [PI Au] developed by Kobayashi, et al., Graduate School of Science, the University of Tokyo, and it has a wide substrate applicability and is useful in oxidative reactions (see the figure below).1) It is an incarcerated catalyst in which gold is held in a bridged polystyrene and it enables oxidation of alcohols to ketone in oxygen atmosphere under mild conditions. This product, progressed from PI Au, is an incarcerated catalyst in which gold is held in the conventional bridged polystyrene and carbon black added as a carrier.2) The addition of carbon black to the carrier has prevented inactivation of catalyst due to gold aggregation and increased the amount of gold held. It is easy to handle and shows more stable catalyst activity.

<1-b> Example of reaction
Recovery and reuse of the catalyst 5 times in the oxidative reaction of 1-phenyl-1-ethanol give acetophenone quantitatively each time without leakage of gold.






Oxidative reaction of various secondary alcohols using PI/CB Au gives corresponding ketones at a high yield.

2. PI Platinum (0) / Gold (0)
This product is a polymer-incarcerated platinum/gold catalyst [PI Pt/Au] developed by Kobayashi, et al., Graduate School of Science, the University of Tokyo (see the figure below).1). It is a heterogeneous catalyst in which platinum and gold are held in a bridged polystyrene and it has accomplished for the first time oxygen oxidation of alcohol at room temperature without the addition of a base. It enables oxidation of primary or secondary alcohols to aldehydes or ketones as well as oxidation of alcohols with a hetero atom such as sulfur and nitrogen ligated strongly to gold.

  • Oxidative reaction of 1-phenyl-1-ethanol
