LPS (Lipopolysaccharides)

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is present in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. It plays an important role in a number of bioactivities and cell-cell communication. In recent years, LPS is used in vigorous research of natural immunity and self-protection mechanism. our LPS product line will prove useful in induction of different inflammatory responses.

LPS from E. coli is used as an antigen for diagnosis of enterohemorrhagic E. coli infection. Campylobacter jejuni is a potential etiological factor of Guillain-Barre syndrome, and LPS from Campylobacter jejuni derives from Campylobacter extracted from patients with Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Research has shown that the O-antigen within LPS in Rickettsia and Proteus bacteria share the same structure. LPS from three Proteus bacteria are used as antigens for Weil-Felix test, an agglutination test for the diagnosis of Rickettsia infection (rash, epidemic typhus, and scrub typhus). Helicobacter pylori is associated with gastritis, gastric ulcer, and development and progression of stomach cancer.
LPS from Helicobacter pylori derives from Helicobacter pylori extracted from patients with gastric ulcer. Porphyromonas gingivalis is a periodontal pathogen. LPS from Porphyromonas gingivalis is reportedly capable of signaling via TLR2 and TLR4.

    Extracted by the Westphal method (using phenol)

  • [Ultracentrifugation]
    Those extracted with phenol are purified twice by ultracentrifugation
